"CHAIR YOGA"
"What is Chair Yoga, you ask?" Well, it's exactly what it states . . . "Chair Yoga, is a unique, gentle, form of yoga, that is practiced sitting on the chair or standing next to it for support." Right now, "Chair Yoga" is in the process of being formally, recognized, as a distinct, type, of yoga.
Being disabled, It is absolutely impossible for me to bend and twist my body into all those funky positions, without either hurting myself, or . . . well, hurting myself! Having a metal rod in your spine is not conducive for performing a "Downward Dog," without popping it through your skin. Then I stumbled upon "Chair Yoga," which was being offered by our local YMCA.
My wife and I decided to give it a try and I am so glad we did. Granted, we didn't get down on the floor, or sit with our legs tucked up under our armpits, but it worked for us, and that's all that matters. "Chair Yoga," is great for seniors, people with disabilities, even children can do it. There are different levels to help "everyone!"
Did you know the origins of "Chair Yoga," go back 5,000 years? "Chair Yoga," will improve your flexibility, strength, stress, and a whole lot more. Take it from me, If you've always wanted to try yoga, but were less than excited about trying to wrap your legs around your head, I highly recommend "Chair Yoga," as an alternative. I think you'll love it!
